This is definitely an upgrade from those dusty onion soup packets that you stirred into sour cream to make dip. Here, we slowly caramelize onions and combine them with cream cheese, sour cream and our French Onion Garlic Blend to create a flavor-packed decadent dip that would also be a delicious sandwich spread on a pastrami or roast beef sandwich.

This is definitely an upgrade from those dusty onion soup packets that you stirred into sour cream to make dip. Here, we slowly caramelize onions and combine them with cream cheese, sour cream and our French Onion Garlic Blend to create a flavor-packed dip that would also be delicious as a spread for a roast beef or pastrami sandwich.
3 Tbs olive oil
2 medium yellow onions, skins removed and thinly sliced (about 4 packed cups)
1 ½ tsp Hudson Valley Salt 4290
⅓ cup water
8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup sour cream, at room temperature
2 Tbs French Onion Garlic Blend 7603
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat and add sliced onions. Cook for about 5 minutes, then add 1 ½ tsp salt and continue to cook for 30-40 minutes, or until onions are nicely browned, but not burnt. Onions will need to be stirred fairly frequently to prevent them from burning.
Once the onions have started to caramelize, there will be some brown residue that will appear at the bottom of the pan, also known as caramelized onion gold. Take a little of the water and drizzle over the brown spot to deglaze and stir that spot aggressively to release all that flavor and color back into your onion mixture. Continue slowly adding water as you see more brown spots appear on the bottom of the pan.
After the onions have reached your desired level of caramelization (I like mine to be the color of a dirty penny), transfer them into a bowl and place them in the fridge until they are chilled.
While the onions are cooling, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, French Onion and Garlic seasoning and Worcestershire in a medium mixing bowl and using a whisk or a spatula, stir until all the ingredients are combined with no lumps. Stir in the cooled caramelized onions and serve with raw vegetables, potato chips or pita chips.
