Germany has a long history of growing and processing chamomile. The rolling hills, high plateau, low-lying hills and fertile broad plain as well as warm climate here provide excellent growing condition for these lovely yellow flowers.
Chamomilla is an annual plant of the composite family which is native to Europe and because its fresh blossoms scent is similar to apples it earned a nice name “apple fairy” from the ancient Greek. It is the most popular source of the herbal product and can be found near populated areas all over Europe. German chamomile is an erect annual plant, with small, daisy like flowers. It has a branched, erect and smooth stem and its long and narrow leaves are bipinnate or tripinnate. The Chamomilla flowers, which bloom in early to midsummer (April –June) and have a strong, aromatic smell, are also widely used for medicinal purposes for their better effects in sedative.
