Where is Our Jasmine Silver Needle White Tea Produced?

This kind of Silver Needles is produced in Panxi, Fuding, Fujian, which is located in the northeast of Fujian and is one of the famous tea-producing areas.

Map of Fujian Province

Fuding belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate, which is characterized by the distinct oceanic climate. The average annual sunshine lasts 1840 hours; the average annual temperature is 18.5°C; average annual precipitation is 1661.6 millimeters.

What is the scenting?
Scenting makes use of the good adsorption properties and aroma – release ability of tea leaves and prompts tea leaves to absorb the fragrant smell of jasmine and layer the taste. In this way, the beverage not only has jasmine flavor but also has white tea flavor and the taste has been prompted.

Piecing tea flowers together - piling - baking - cooling - binning

Piling is the most important step in scenting. The control of temperature is very significant. If it is too cold, the tea leaves cannot completely absorb the fragrant smell of jasmine; if it is too hot, the tea leaves will be burned.

The data of scenting

1 kg Jasmine needs 3.5 kgs Silver Needle fresh material (equal 1 kg dry leaves) and total fresh Jasmine flowers 6 kg. This scenting process is repeated with fresh Jasmine flowers a total of 5-6 times, each time need 1kg fresh flower. It takes 6 to 7 hours in each scenting process.

About Tea Tree

The species in Fuding is Fu Ding Da Hao, “Da hao” for short. It is asexual propagation, belonging to semi-tree form. In 1985, it was certificated as national variety in the number GS13002-1985. It's plant could reach up to 2.8 meters high, and has obvious trunk. Spring tea, which contains 1.8% of amino acid and 28.2% of tea polyphonels, is the material of high quality for making Silver Needle White Tea and White Peony Tea.

About Farmer

Mr. Lin Xingbiao has been a professional tea farmer for thirty years. Born in a traditional tea family, he was deeply influenced by his family and built his own tea factory in 1966. With the gradual growth of his factory, he is trying to seek the common development between enterprise and tea farmers.

He thinks that the most challenging factor is the weather. If tea leaves suffered from bad weather, the yield would be reduced and the quality would not reach the standard. If tea leaves suffered from cold weather, straws would be used to cover them and protect them from being frosted. This is what Mr. Lin gets from his experience over the years.

Therefore, the first priority is to strictly control product quality and ensure its reputation. Mr. Lin, together with his tea factory, will continue to provide high-quality tea leaves and regularly increase the number of tea factory which provides the healthy and natural tea beverage for the public.

The Reason for the Title "The City of Chinese Jasmine"

Jasmine favors the warm and wet environment. It will grow best in the semi- shade room with good ventilation. Hengxian belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate, which is characterized by full sunshine, warm climate, abundant rainfall and long frost-free period. The summer lasts a long period while the summer is short. This climatic environment is good for the growth of jasmine.

History of Silver Needle White Tea

White Tea is the earliest form of Chinese tea. When the Chinese first discovered tea, they soon found out that sun-drying or baking the leaves ensured that the tea could be easily stored and used at a later time. These steps, of course, formed the basis of the withering and drying processes that are still used to this date.

White Tea originally was grown in the area around the city of Fuding, in Fujian province. It later spread to the areas around the cities of Shuiji, then Zhenghe. The first type of White Tea produced was Silver Needle, in the area around Taimu Mountain near Fuding.

Originally Silver Needle was made from the buds of the Xiao Bai form of the tea bush. This form of the tea bush is smaller and slower growing, and so Silver Needle was expensive and rare. However around 1857 farmers around the town of Shuiji began using the DaBai form of the tea bush. This has larger buds, and – more importantly – produces better quality tea, with more white hairs on the buds, more fragrance and a stronger taste. From that time on, White Tea has been made using the Da Bai tea bush.
